Hereditary development anomalies: A hereditary anomaly occurs when certain abnormalities are inherited by the children from either of their parents. Such abnormalities are usually passed down via genes.
Acquired abnormalities occur throughout intrauterine life as a result of unhealthy environmental circumstances. They are not passed down via DNA.
A hamartoma is described as an excessive, localised outgrowth of mature, normal cells and tissues that are endemic to that specific site. Hamartomatous developmental malformations are developmental anomalies caused by hamartomatous alterations in the tissue.
Idiopathic anomalies are developmental defects that have an unknown origin.
