Student loan repayment

Student loans must be repaid, although repayments do not commence until the student has completed the degree and earns more than £15,000 per year. Once wages surpass this repayment level, the student will be required to return 9 percent of all earnings in excess of £15,000. If a student is expected to begin repaying a student loan in April 2012, they will have the option of having a one- or two-year repayment hiatus.

Grants to assist with living expenses: Grants for maintenance and specific assistance
A third of new students are likely to be eligible for the full Maintenance Award or Special Support Grant, with the other third eligible for a partial grant.
Bursaries are financial assistance provided to students.

Bursaries are additional sources of assistance from universities and institutions. If a student receives the full Maintenance Grant or a special assistance Grant, institutions in England must provide at least a minimum bursary payment. Grants and bursaries are not required to be returned.

Courses offered on a part-time basis

There are no laws on the amount of tuition that universities or colleges may charge for most part-time courses.
